Alarm Phone stands in solidarity with the crew of SOS Mediterranee who, together with rescued survivors, were viciously attacked by the so-called Libyan coastguard today. These are the allies Europe chooses to violently deter people who seek safety and freedom.
Today at 3pm, the #OceanViking has been deliberately and violently attacked in intl. waters by the Libyan Coast Guard, who fired hundreds of shots at our ship. The 87 survivors and crew on board were not wounded. We are currently working on a detailed reconstruction of events.
Three sisters from #Sudan are the latest victims of the European border regime. We are devastated and send our heartfelt solidarity to friends and relatives. We also think about the crew of the #Nadir and the survivors who had to witness this horror.
Rescued! 47 people called us when in distress in the central Med, trying to escape from #Libya. We informed authorities and the #civilfleet. Once again, it was due to the intervention of an NGO that lives were rescued. Thanks to #OceanViking for responding to their distress!
1/2 Last night,the #OceanViking rescued 47 people including 9 unaccompanied minors from a rubber boat in distress in intl. waters off Libya following an alert by @alarm_phone.
Most are fleeing the war-torn #Sudan, where over 12 million people are displaced by a brutal conflict.
